The Sisters are back in town ....
Locally based actors Andrew Cullum and Oliver Hume are "The Panto Girls" in a new play which appears at Dunchurch Village Hall on 11th February. The play is set backstage in a provincial theatre during pantomime season and is a comedy with darker moments and one or two surprises. Andrew Cullum, who also wrote the play based partly on his own experience of playing Ugly Sister with Oliver Hume, says: "With some brilliant direction from Marcus Fernando, 'The Panto Girls' is an even better play than the one I'd heard in my head while I was writing it. I’m sometimes asked if the play is autobiographical: No it isn’t. The two characters are derived from Oliver and myself, but to make an interesting play I had to change and exaggerate certain personality traits."
Besides playing pantomime dames at Christmas time, Andrew and Oliver have played a wide variety of other parts. "I love all the jobs I've ever done" says Oliver, "I've played Macbeth, and that was incredible, I also love musicals and have, in my time played Fagin in 'Oliver' and sung in several musicals over the years." Andrew says "What I enjoy the most is the variety of the roles I get to play. The Panto Girls' is a chance to see what happens backstage in the dressing room during pantomime season. You may be in for a surprise."
